description: they are pretty lizards, some being spectacular. many are brown or tan with light or dark stripes, dots, or combinations of them both. sizes range from 20cm to 30.5cm including tail, which makes up two thirds of the overall size. rainbow whiptails rest in an alert position, with their head held up high away from the ground.
diet: they eat insects including crickets, locusts, mealworms and waxworms, and also some will eat fresh blossoms and salad. insects need to be dusted with calcium and vitamin supplements.
housing: a 3 foot vivarium is suitable for a rainbow whiptail lizard. this should be decorated with hides and leaves to provide a retreat and safe place to hide. also branches in which to sit and bask on.
temperature: they require a basking spot of high 90s to low 100s and an ambient temperature of high 80s to 90s.
lighting: they require UV lighting. this can be supplied using a UV strip light or an all in one bulb.
humidity: low
notes: they are fast nervous lizards which shouldn't be handled often.
